Description
“The Last Chief” Quanah Parker Oil Painting
Quanah Parker, a Comanche warrior and political leader, was the last official principal chief of his tribe.
Born around 1845, a prominent Comanche leader, Quanah Parker experienced two distinct phases. Initially, he was a fierce warrior among the Plains Indians of Texas. He later became a practical leader striving to secure a future for his people in a swiftly evolving America. In this golden and earthy painting by Rudolph Kasper, we see the Last Chief as a Comanche Warrior on horseback, spear in hand, and prepared for anything. However, his confident and honorable expression portrays a peaceful gentleness within this beautiful work of art.
