Sugar and spice and everything nice? What is our Night Sugar Fairy up to now?

In this oil painting by the artist Rudolph Kasper, this fairy appears from the darkness of night. A bit foreboding, she resembles the sugar skulls or calaveras of the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Despite her ominous manifestation, plush, heavy strokes of color and a golden sword may represent her ability to defend the night and the essence of death and rebirth. Her fierce, open wings and fantastical headdress are adorned with an array of sweet and pleasing shades that perhaps give her that sugary appeal.
